Comprehensive Caregiver Training Program

Ever think about becoming a caregiver? Maybe you’ve been helping an aging family member or neighbor and you would like formal training? Lahari is sponsoring a comprehensive caregiver training program that includes access to a 75 hour online course, optional weekly study group sessions and assistance in becoming certified as a Washington State Home Care Aide (HCA).

The course material will include:

  • The role of the caregiver when working with clients; clients rights; and identifying abuse and neglect.
  • Reviews proper infection control measures and mobility issues – ambulation, transfers, using assistive devices, etc.
  • How to identify potential pressure areas on the skin, how to bathe and provide personal hygiene, and communication skills.
  • The basics of nutrition and food preparation and handling in this class.
  • The difference between assisting and administering and when delegation is required
  • A review of common diseases
  • Good self-care practices
  • How to handle grief
  • Participate in a Hands-on Skills Lab
  • HCA certification assistance, for those who are interested

To help motivate participants to pace themselves through the material in the course, weekly study group sessions will be held on Thursday evenings at 6:00pm at the Senior Center starting February 4th. These sessions are optional. You can cover the material in the online course at your own pace and check in to a session if you have any questions.

This program is free, however a $50 refundable deposit is required to start the online course. The deposit will be returned when the online course completed. Also, for those participants that pursue Washington State HCA certification, Lahari will reimburse some of the certification costs.

This program has started and is now full. We are no longer accepting new students. To be notified of future HCA Training email: dennis.king@laharionorcas.org
